Over the weekend, my parents told me that the first trains with Ukrainian refugees from Lviv made it safely to my hometown, Wrocław.
Poland, Czechia, Slovakia, Romania, Moldova, Baltic States, and other Eastern European countries are now all welcoming thousands of immigrants.
And they are prepared to welcome many more.
It’s heartwarming to see Slavs standing united during those dark days and offering support to their Ukrainian brothers and sisters.
After all, we’ve all been in their place before.
We know the horrors of invasions and wars. We know what losing our friends and relatives to authoritarian regimes is like. And we know that history likes to repeat itself.
As memory fades, events from the past can become events of the present.
And, sadly, that’s the case today.
