What a brilliant piece, thank you for sharing it! As a mother of 1 from Greece, I can vouch for your findings in having a smaller family due to structural and cultural inequalities (women are expected to do so much... TOO MUCH if you ask me!) I had my son at 38, divorced his dad at 41 and I'm now a single mum who is struggling to do everything on my own. If I had any more babies I think I'd cry, not because I didn't want more (I did) but because our society and economy are not designed to support me having more children in any way, shape or form...

Everytime I see doom and gloom headlines about falling birthrates I just sigh. I think to myself “well, why can't we just focus our efforts on creating a good world for everyone who already exists?”. A couple of generations of “less is more” might solve a lot of problems.
