You know it was men who made the shipping error to the zoo. We know this because it was 100 years ago so women wouldn’t have had power positions, and because women would never have allowed that. We would have foreseen the problem before the plan was executed.

We definitely have a lot to learn from bonobos. "Make love, not war", and "Sistehood is powerful" come to mind.

Love this essay; thank you for sharing it. The National Geographic series “Queens,” about the leadership roles females play in various animal species, has an episode devoted to the matrilineal primates the Bonobos, and it is amazing. The females hold all the history and wisdom and keep the peace and make sure the males stay in check.

Patriarchy is basically a giant game of King of the (Monkey) Hill. It's a negative-sum game in which everyone ultimately loses, even the (temporary) "winners".

Writing narratives that project onto other species may seem like fun, but it is dangerous if people believe your stories.
