Video killed the radio star

Internet killed the video star

AI killed the internet star

And will ultimately kill us all

(If we're not careful about it, that is.)

To some extent all new technology is no better or worse than any tool. The user is the issue, as they have always been throughout the span of human existence.

AI is not Artificial Intelligence. It is a statistically driven word salad generator. Now, if a babe in mother's arm spewed out the same there would be shouts of amazement, and calls for the trickery to be shared. Now, this AI shows up, not in their mother's arms but in the hands of the people enamored with their latest shiny new thing they created.

Every word they output is statistically likely to be the correct sounding word based on the previous word(s). They call it hallucinating. It is not. It is operating exactly as designed. They are a set of numbers in a massive spreadsheet column. That's all they are. If one uses them as a tool, or perhaps even better, if they are used in the hands of artists then there is some value to be had.

Too many of the business leaders will use AI without realizing what they are. What their output is. Replacing reporters (been done) with AI then being called out on it (also done), having to add human editors/fact checkers saves, what exactly?

Time will tell. Of course, time cares naught for us, merely the ticking of the universe. It is best we remember that. Because these AI will not care, indeed, they cannot. They are artificial. They are not intelligent.

You should consider reading the novel "The City and the Stars" by Arthur C. Clark.

Very interesting research! Thanks for sharing that :) I still think that AI is nowhere near from 'taking over society' based on various basic experiments done in two languages. By experiments, I mean asking Chat GPT to produce a specific list of words in Italian and English, or asking Google to play Fedez (and landing on FedEx)... I want to believe in the good of AI though!

Well-said overall.

A thought experiment: if someone was to build such a thing, and it worked, but part of the reason it worked is that it would expose the horror show of the "right thinking" "(the) reality" narratives that you and yours enjoy spreading far and wide (to be fair: Humans seem to be primarily pleasure seeking beings, and being right does feel real good), *and it hurt you to see yourself for the first time similar to how you see your outgroup members*...do you really think you would support it? Like, if you really spend time thinking about it?

Sometimes I think back to the beginnings of most of the modern world problems, such as plastics and in my country, bad street planning (which has led to many preventable car accidents). And as always discussed, had it been organized well from the very beginning, then the problems we would see today would be to a minimum. This thought reminds me of the one rule to stand by; It's always better to prevent a problem than to treat it. It is pertinent to set up AI to our benefit from the very beginning rather than deal with the ramifications later on. I see it as an opportunity to better educate others, as mentioned, that needs to be utilized as soon as possible.
